Charles is the Director of Academic Support for the Fort Wayne Community Schools. He has been with the corporation for 34 years having previously also served as a middle school principal and Director of Civic and Community Relations.
As a BSU student Charles was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and is an active volunteer for the Alumni Association. In addition to serving on the Alumni Council where he is currently President-Elect and has also filled a vice presidential position, he has served as President of the Northeastern Indiana Alumni Chapter and is a member of the Black Alumni Constituent Society.
Charles feels that his time at Ball State "was a very rewarding and enriching experience. I made life-long friends among students and faculty members, joined a fraternity, and experienced leadership roles in other campus activities and organizations. I had fun throughout the time I completed my degree and the quality of education I received was excellent. I believed in the quality of education I received from Ball State so strongly that I returned to campus to receive two more degrees."
As other alumni have shared their stories with Charles, he says he is "extremely proud of the University" and the shared experiences just "reinforced my love and respect for Ball State University. I am proud to be an alumnus of Ball State University and I will always encourage students and parents to view Ball State as a first option when considering an institution of higher learning."
