Alumni Spotlight - Teresa Gibbons, '84MA87 (10/2/2006)

Teresa Gibbons

Teresa Gibbons graduated from Ball State University in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in English and in 1987 with a master's degree in reading.

After graduating from Ball State, Teresa taught English at Concord High School for 5 years.  After getting married to her husband, Dan, and having 2 sons, Will and John, Teresa and her family moved to Holland, Michigan where she taught as an adjunct professor at Hope College and Grand Valley State University.  She moved several more times, but has returned to Holland and has resumed teaching at Grand Valley State University as an affiliate professor of writing.

While a student at Ball State, Teresa was an SOC leader and was on the staff at Painter Hall and at Schmidt Hall during summer school.  She still stays very busy with hobbies that include traveling, snow skiing, and making stained glass windows.

When asked about her time at Ball State, Teresa says, "I loved BSU.  It was the right size for me, and I had some great professors.  I've found that there are lots of English teachers competing for jobs, but my master's in reading has opened so many doors."
