Ed Shipley elected to CAAE board

Ed Shipley, '68MA71, executive director of the Ball State University Alumni  Association, has been elected to a two-year term on the 12-member board of  directors of the Council of Alumni Association Executives (CAAE). Shipley is a charter member of CAAE, which was established in 1994.

CAAE officers are: John Fuedo, Boston College, president; Steve Hall, University of Houston, vice-president; Danita Nias, University of Maryland, secretary; Joe Irwin, Georgia Tech, treasurer; and Loren Taylor, University of Illinois, past president.

The organization is comprised of 90 of the largest and most active alumni  associations in North America. They represent both private and public institutions,  and are largely independent or interdependent. The majority of the associations derive much of their funding from self-generated sources, affi nity partnerships, and a proactive marketing approach.

Shipley has been at Ball State for 29 years and has led the Alumni Association as executive director since 1980.


Board members meet to discuss fall plans

Professional Societies are planning events ranging from an awards dinner to a White River Clean-up.

CAP: The College of Architecture and Planning Alumni Society will host CAP Alumni Day Friday, September 29, at the Alumni Center.

Award recipients will be recognized at the event. The Distinguished Alumni award will be presented to Yung Ho Chang, '83, the Outstanding Alumni award to Bill  Brown, '93, Debra Kunce, '93, and Les Smith, '72MLA85, and the Sappenfield Award to professors Andy Seager and Jim Segedy.

FCS: The Family and Consumer Sciences Alumni Society board of directors will meet Tuesday, September 19, at 5:30 p.m. at the McDonald's Restaurant on  McGalliard Road in Muncie.

The meeting will include a tour of the restaurant and finalizing plans for the ninth annual Career Mentoring Day. Joe Oliver, '78, will host the meeting.

The society's ninth annual Career Mentoring Day will be Thursday, October 26 at the Alumni Center. FCS alumni will provide career information to current students.

Journalism: The Journalism Alumni Society board of directors will meet Saturday, September 30, at 9:30 a.m. in the Alumni Center.

Agenda topics include discussion of goals and intiatives for 2006-07. The board will also review award nomination criteria for three awards: Outstanding Journalism Alumnus, Outstanding Young Alumnus, and Hall of Fame.

MCOB: The Miller College of Business Alumni Society will host its third annual  Alumni Awards Dinner Friday, September 8, at the Alumni Center. A reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m.

The 2006 Hall of Fame inductees and award recipients include: Paul Parkinson, '58MA6; Tony Smith, '68; Doug Bowers, '80; Sheryl Conley, MBA93; Ken DePaola, '79; Terry Walker, '68; Greg Beyerl, MS83; Ron Brumbarger, '87; Mary Frances Luce, '89; and Jim Stratman, '93.

NREM: The Natural Resources and Environmental Management Alumni Society will host a White River clean-up Saturday, September 16. All NREM alumni and families are invited to attend.

Teachers College: The Teachers College Alumni Association have announced  Lance Brand, '95MA99, as the recipient of the  Oustanding Alumni award
for 2006-07. Brand teaches science at Delta High School in Muncie.

Fourteen scholarships have been awarded by the association for 2006-07 academic year. The recipients include: Jessica Albrecht of West Lafayette, Jennifer Defore of  Terra Haute, Katie Gillies of Carol Stream, Katherine Groth of Indianapolis, Megan McCreery of Muncie, Whitnee Mills of Muncie, Aubree Norris of Westville, Brooke Rice of Pittsboro, Kari Richardson of Anderson, Krista Rutledge of Elkhart, Amanda Sitler of New Palestine, Daniel Thrasher of Anderson, Andrea Wiese of Chesterton, and Sheila Ziegler of Fort Wayne.


Chapter members head outdoors for summer outings

Alumni will enjoy a parade and fair, a Hoosier Park race, and an evening of wine  tasting.

Adams-Wells: The Adams-Wells Alumni Chapter will join in festivities of the Bluffton Street Fair Parade with special guest Charlie Cardinal Tuesday, September 19, from 6:00-9:00 p.m.

Greater Indianapolis: The Greater Indianapolis Area Alumni Chapter will host its annual Hoosier Park Racing and Dinner Outing Sunday, September 10, in Anderson. A buffet dinner will be available at 5:00 p.m., and racing is scheduled  to begin at 6:10 p.m. Jason Blythe, '93, is coordinating the event.

The chapter's board of directors will meet Wednesday, October 18, at 6:00 p.m. in Indianapolis.

Michiana: The Michiana Alumni Chapter will host a wine tasting from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Studebaker Museum in South Bend, Saturday, October 14.

Northeastern: The Northeastern Indiana Alumni Chapter board of directors will meet Thursday, September 21, at 6:00 p.m. in Fort Wayne.


Four alumni groups to host fall reunions

Events are planned for Absolunacy Alumni, the 1976 and 1996 MAC Championship football teams, men's basketball team members from 1955-59, and men's tennis alumni.

Absolunacy Alumni:  Absolunacy Improv Comedy Troupe alumni will meet to celebrate their 15th anniversary Friday and Saturday, September 15-16. The reunion will include dinner Friday night at the Alumni Center and a performance on  Saturday in Pruis Hall.

CFA: The Cardinal Football Alliance will host a reunion for members of the 1976  and 1996 MAC Championship football teams Saturday, September 30, at the Alumni Center.

The event will include a reception, buffet dinner, and halftime recognition during the game vs. Northern Illinois. The reception will begin at 4:00 p.m. followed by a buffet dinner at 5:00 p.m. Kick-off is 6:30 p.m.

Men's Basketball: A reunion for men's basketball team members from 1955-59 will be Friday and Saturday, September 8-9.

The reunion will begin at Damon's Restaurant Friday evening with cocktails at 5:00 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:00 p.m.

Saturday events will take place at the Alumni Center with a continental breakfast at 9:00 a.m. A buffet dinner will be at 4:00 p.m. The game vs. Indiana University will conclude the evening. Kick off is 6:30 p.m.

Men's Tennis: Men's tennis alumni will gather for their ninth annual tennis alumni reunion Saturday, October 14.

The event will begin with 18 holes of golf at The Players Club in Yorktown. Tee time is 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow at the Alumni Center at 7:00 p.m. with an Italian buffet, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
