Student Life new umbrella for student programs (6/30/2006)
A new structure for student programs has been implemented this summer. Effective July 1, Leadership and Service Learning combined with Student Organizations and Activities to become Student Life.

Lynda Wiley, who has been named assistant dean for student affairs and director of student life, said the change will streamline duties and allow more focus on the programs themselves rather than on administrative responsibilities.

Wiley said a combination of factors, including staffing changes and restructuring in the Division of Students Affairs, contributed to the decision to bring the areas together under the umbrella of Student Life.

"The reorganization allows for one person to handle administrative duties and lets the rest of the staff focus on the programs and work more directly with students," Wiley said.

Wiley, who has been director of student organizations and activities and served as interim director of leadership and service learning, has taken on overall administrative duties for the new area. The number of administrative staff has not changed.

Additional staff include associate directors of student life Aimee Ash and Kathy Smith, as well as assistant directors Tiffany Washington and Cara Luyster.
