Alumni Spotlight - Dionne Moore, '93MA00 (6/1/2006)

Dionne Moore

Dionne Moore earned a bachelor of science degree in 1993 in elementary education and a master of arts degree in 2000 in student affairs administration in higher education from Ball State University.  She is currently the Staff Optometrist at a Lorain Community Based Outpatient Clinic for veterans in Lorain, Ohio.

After graduation Dionne taught junior high math and coached volleyball and track in the Gary Community Schools.  She later completed optometry school in Indiana and her residency at Louis Stokes Veterans Administration Medical Clinic.  She was also commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserves in January 2005.

While a student at Ball State, Dionne was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Golden Key National Honor Society, Cardinal Corps, Cardinal Crazies, Cardinal Welcome Team, Halls United in Giving Services (HUGS), Student Voluntary Services, Black Student Association, Black Greek Council, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Fraternity, and Blue Key National Honor Society.  She was also a Resident Assistant, Assistant Resident Hall Director, Apartment Manager, and President of College Ministry at Union Baptist Church.

When asked about her feelings toward Ball State, Dionne states, "I love Ball State so much that after teaching in Gary, Indiana for 4 years, I decided to come back full-time for a master's degree.  I consider Muncie to be my second hometown."  She also says, "Ball State was a great fit for me.  It is a mid-sized university with a small college feel.  I enjoyed my time at BSU and have very fond memories."
