Five track and field members attain conference honors
Five members of the indoor track and field team garnered All-Mid-American Conference accolades for their performances at the MAC Championship in Bowling Green, OH.
Senior Jennifer McCoy (Granger/St. Joseph H.S.) received All-MAC Second Team distinction after placing second in the pentathlon with an NCAA provisional qualifying and school record score of 3,739, while junior Terri Araham (Decatur, IL/Argenta-Oreana H.S.) became a Second Team honoree after placing second in the long and triple jump. Sophomore Amber Williams (Fort Wayne/Concordia Lutheran H.S.) also was named to the All-MAC Second Team after finishing second in the 60-hurdles, 60-dash, and 200.
Jill Scully, '05, led the way as an All-MAC First Team recipient and the conference's Most Outstanding Track Performer. She won both the 3,000-meter and 5,000 for the second-straight year at the conference championship.
Scully is a two-time MAC Most Outstanding Track Performer aft er taking home the title in 2005. Along with junior Rose Lehe (Wolcott/Tri-County H.S.), Scully also was named to the Indoor Track and Field Academic All-MAC Conference Team. That marks the second time Lehe has received the award, while Scully was honored for the third-straight year.
Scully broke the school record in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:31.43. Her time was an NCAA provisional qualifying mark, personal record, and ranks her 22nd in the nation.
Cardinals choose Flint as assistant
Steve Flint, who served as an assistant men's basketball coach at the College of Southern Idaho during the 2004-05 season, has been named an assistant coach at Ball State.
Flint helped Southern Idaho to a third-place fi nish at the 2005 NJCAA Tournament, after winning both the conference and Region 9 Championship. Southern Idaho finished the 2004-05 season with a record of 33-3.
He was responsible for on-court coaching with particular emphasis on individual play, post play, and defense.
Prior to Southern Idaho, Flint was an assistant coach at the University of San Diego, from 2000-04.
A 1989 graduate of the University of California-San Diego, Flint was drafted by the Portland Trailblazers in 1984.

Top performances lead to accolades for two gymnasts
Junior Kelly Watson (Ravenna, MI/Allendale H.S.) and sophomore Erica Gilkerson (North Branch, MN/North Brach H.S.), two members of the gymnastics team, garnered All-Mid American Conference accolades for their performances at the MAC Championship in March.
Watson earned All-MAC Second Team distinction after placing seventh in the all-around competition with a score of 38.225. She recorded scores of 9.675 on vault, 9.425 on bars, 9.525 on floor, and 9.600 on beam, which tied her for 11th place.
Gilkerson was a Second Team honoree after recording BSU's top scores on vault (9.700) and floor (9.725). The mark on floor tied for 16th, while the floor score earned 19th-place honors. The sophomore added a tenth-place finish in the all-around competition with an overall score of 37.825.
DeMuth earns All-MAC recognition
Sophomore Julie DeMuth (Merrillville/Merrillville H.S.) has been selected to the 2006 Women's Basketball All-Mid-American Conference Third Team.
A member of the MAC's All-Freshman Team last season, DeMuth has played in 27 games with 24 starts in the 2005-06 season. She currently paces the team with 11.4 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game. Her 13 blocked shots are second for the Cardinals.
The two-year starter already ranks 15th on Ball State career charts with 455 rebounds. She has accumulated 24 double-figure scoring efforts, 18 double-digit rebounding marks, and 18 double-doubles in her career.
Ball State hires football coaches
Sidney Powell and John Powers will join the Cardinals for the 2006 season as assistant football coaches. The staff adjustments were made after Ted Huber, '67MA72, retired as Ball State's assistant head coach, and Eric Lewis left as the Cardinals' secondary coach to take a position with the Green Bay Packers.
After spending the last two seasons at the University of Massachusetts as the defensive back coach, Powell will coach the secondary for the Cardinals. Powers, who has spent the last five seasons as an assistant coach at Lehigh University, will coach the offensive line.
Stan Parrish, who served as BSU's quarterbacks coach last year, has been promoted to offensive coordinator, and Ed Stults, offensive coordinator, has been promoted to assistant head coach.

Women's Field Hockey: The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) has named the 2005 team as a Division 1 Academic Team award winner. Nine Cardinals were identified as members of the National Academic Squad, including seniors Tracy Bannister (Woodbridge, VA/Woodbridge H.S.) and Lacey Morgan (Lancaster, OH/Lancaster H.S.); junior Tara Reed (Temple, PA/Oley Valley H.S.); sophomores Lauren Cruz (Centreville, VA/Centreville H.S.); Nicole Humphreys (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson H.S.); Katie Kloeckener (St. Louis, MO/Nerinx H.S.); and freshmen Amanda Pavone (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra Area H.S.), and Melanie Pasillas (Glendora, CA/Glendora H.S.).
Women's Soccer: Head women's soccer coach Ron Rainey has accepted the head coaching position at the University of Iowa. Rainey moved to the Big Ten school after coaching the Cardinals for seven seasons.
