Award programs, spring gatherings fill society agendas
Professional societies have sponsored and participated in spring award programs and numerous other activities. Plans are underway for summer events.
CAP: The College of Architecture and Planning Alumni Society board of directors will meet Thursday, June 22, at the CAP Indianapolis Center.
FCS: The Family and Consumer Sciences Alumni Society board of directors will meet Wednesday, May 17, at 5:30 p.m. at the Alumni Center.
The chapter will host a tour and lunch at Ghyslain Chocolatier European Chocolates and Pastries in Union City, Wednesday, June 28.
Journalism: The Journalism Alumni Society board of directors participated in the Department of Journalism's spring award luncheon, April 4, on campus.
Board president Brian Hayes, '96, presented the Hall of Fame award to Melvin Sharpe, retiring public relations professor.
Jennifer George-Palilonis, '96MA05, and Steven Patterson, '96, received Outstanding Young Alumnus awards, and Paul Nussbaum, '74, was honored as the Outstanding Journalism Alumnus.
The board's next meeting is set for Saturday, September 30, at the Alumni Center.
NREM: The Natural Resources and Environmental Management Alumni Society board of directors will host its annual spring White River Clean-up Saturday, May 20. Families of NREM alumni are invited to attend.
Nursing: The Nursing Alumni Association will participate in the Nursing Pinning Ceremony Friday, May 5, at Emens Auditorium.
The annual nursing awards banquet was hosted oncampus, April 29. During the event, the Outstanding Nursing Alumni Award was presented to Helen Borman,
'35, and Jay Kyle Ober, MS03.
Teachers College: The Teachers College Alumni Society board of directors will meet Wedesday, July 12, at 10:00 a.m. at the Alumni Center.
The scholarship committee will meet at 9:00 a.m. and other committees will convene at 9:30 a.m.
Chapters enjoy traditional events, add new activities
Both traditional and new activities have kept alumni chapters busy throughout the spring. A variety of events are included for the summer.
Greater Indianapolis: The Greater Indianapolis Alumni Chapter will host a picnic and see an Indianapolis Indians baseball game Friday, June 2. The Indians play host to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons. The picnic will begin at 5:30 p.m., and game time is 7:00 p.m. Tom Nowak, '86, is coordinator for the evening.
The annual Continuing Professional Education Seminar for CPAs is Wednesday, June 21, from 8:00 a.m.-noon. The seminar will be at Lutz's Restaurant in Noblesville.
Following the seminar there will be a golf and dinner outing. The event is at Pebble Brook Golf Club in Noblesville. Bob Browning, '76, is in charge.
Indianapolis-area alumni may participate in a new event Thursday, August 10, when the board hosts a beer and wine tasting. Steph Meyers, '91MA92, is coordinating the event.
The annual Symphony on the Prairie Outing and Hoosier Park Racing and Dinner Outing will conclude the summer calendar for Indianapolis-area alumni. Reservations for the Saturday, August 26 symphony will be accepted by Julie Bradshaw, '80.
Jason Blythe, '93, is coordinating the Hoosier Park outing, set for Sunday, September 10. A brochure with information and registration forms for all the events will be sent to alumni in the Greater Indianapolis area.
Michiana: The Michiana Alumni Chapter board of directors will meet Monday, May 22, in Elkhart.
The chapter will host its annual golf and dinner outing Monday, July 24, from noon-9:00 p.m. at the South Bend Country Club. Kim Stout, '82, is in charge of the outing.
The Michiana 4-H Fair luncheon and a concert are scheduled for Saturday, July 22, in Goshen. Plans are being coordinated by Kristy Ambrosen, '94.
Northeastern Indiana: The Northeastern Indiana Alumni Chapter will join in the festivities of the Three Rivers Festival Parade Saturday, July 8, in Fort Wayne. John Martin, '90, and Russ Hire, '88 are coordinating the event.
The chapter will sponsor its annual golf and dinner outing Wednesday, July 19, beginning at noon at the Cherry Hill Golf Club in Fort Wayne. Matt Momper, '83, is in charge of the outing.
