Ball State Alumni Coach of the Year Award Winners Announced (3/1/2006)
The Alumni Association has announced seven spring sports high school Coach of the Year awards.  The award is presented to Indiana high school head coaches in all IHSAA-recognized sports.  Recipients are recommended and selected by colleagues throughout the state and Ball State athletics representatives. 

This year's recipients are:

Barry Weaver, ‘75MA78 - Boy's Tennis
Barry directed the Jay County High School Patriots to a 15-4 win-loss record and conference and sectional championships.

Jim Garrett, ‘71 - Girl's Golf
Coach Garrett led the Penn High School Kingsmen to an 11-0 win-loss record. The team took home championships at the Northern Indiana conference, sectionals, regionals and state, setting new records at sectionals and state and tying their own record at regionals. This is Garrett's fifth consecutive year to win this award.

Larry "Bud" Wright, ‘63 - Football 
Wright directed the Sheridan High School Blackhawks to a 13-2 win-loss record and a Class 1A state championship. Wright is the 5th coach in Indiana history to win 300 games ("The 300 Career Win Club") and he was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in 2002.

James Sensibaugh, ‘96 - Soccer
Coach Sensibaugh directed the Chesterton High School Trojans to an 11-5-3 win-loss-tie record. He was selected as the District 1 Coach of the Year by ISCA and coached the District I team in Indianapolis this past November.

Rick Torres, ‘00 - Boy's Cross Country  
Coach Torres led the Andrean High School Niners to the first trip to state finals in school history. They were ranked 15th in the state and placed 11th at the state finals.

Scott Ecclestone, '84 - Girl's Cross Country
Ecclestone led the Fort Wayne Snider High School Panthers to a 104-17 win-loss record with championships at six invitationals, the SAC conference, and regionals. The Panthers placed 5th at semi-state and 9th at state. The team grade point average is 3.63 on a 4.0 scale. This is Coach Ecclestone's second consecutive year to receive this award.

Mary Goth, ‘77 - Volleyball
Coach Goth led the Cowan High School Blackhawks to a 32-6 win-loss record and championships at the Blackhawk Invitational, Clinton Prairie tournament, sectionals, and regionals.
