Miller named to All-MAC first team, Kramer to second team
Chris Miller (Libertyville, IL/Carmel H.S.), a red-shirt freshman punter for the Cardinal football team, was selected to the All-Mid-American Conference First
Team, and Blair Kramer (Maumee, OH/St. John's Jesuit H.S.), a senior for the
Cardinals in 2005, was named to the All-MAC Second Team.
Miller punted 68 times for 2,971 yards and ranks first in the MAC and 11th in the
nation with a 42.9 average. Kramer, who also was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Five Team, started ten games at defensive end, and led the team with 13 tackles for loss and team-high five sacks.
He ranks sixth in the MAC in tackles for loss. Kramer played in all but one game during his four-year career.
Soccer players earn All-MAC accolades
Six players on the Ball State women's soccer team have earned All-American Conference honors. Senior defender Krista Mitts (Fort Mitchell, KY/Holy Cross
H.S.) earned 2005 All-MAC First Team honors.
Juniors Alison Becker (Bettendorf, IA/Bettendorf H.S.) and Vandi Ogden (Fishers/Hamilton Southeastern H.S.); and sophomores Sarah Leibel (Cincinnati, OH/St. Ursula H.S.) and Angie Heyer (Zanesville/Homestead H.S.) were named to the All-MAC Second Team.
Forward Emily Rein (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills H.S.) was named to the 2005 All-MAC Freshman Team.
As team captain, Mitts was an integral part of the team's defense, which led the league with the fewest goals allowed and lowest goals against average, while tying for the most shutouts. On the offensive side, she posted five shots, one goal, and one assist during the 2005 season.
Becker, the starting goalkeeper, played 1,814 minutes with 70 saves, 0.55 goals-against average, and an .864 save percentage. She allowed only 11 goals and posted nine shutouts during the season.
Becker led the league in goals-against average, save percentage, and shutouts during the game.
Ogden played and started in all of BSU's 20 games and tied for the third-most goals
on the squad, with four. She registered one assist, nine points, and 39 shots during
the 2005 season.
Leibel led the team and the conference in shots (56) and shots per game (2.8). She
accumulated five goals, three assists, 13 points, and 24 shots on goal.
Heyer posted a team-high seven assists on the year, and is tied for second in the MAC. The midfielder started in all 20 games with four goals, 15 points, 20 shots, and two game-winning goals and tied for the lead in points. Rein started in 18 games and led the team in goals and game winning goals, tying for the lead in points.
She tied for fourth in the MAC in goals and second in game-winning goals. She
accumulated seven goals, one assist, 15 points, and 39 shots during the season.
Volleyball players receive honors
Three members of the Ball State women's volleyball team have been named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V University Division Women's
Volleyball Team.
Seniors Sarah Obras (Pendleton/Pendleton Heights H.S.) and Stephanie Bacan (Remsen, IA/St. Mary's H.S.) earned recognition on the first team, while red-shirt
sophomore Angie Parrell (Black Earth, WI/Wisconsin Heights H.S.) was named to
the third team.
Obras, an accounting major with a 3.86 gradepoint average, picked up the honor for the third time in her career after being named to the first team as a junior and the second team during her sophomore year.
She is the first player in Mid-American Conference history to record 1,500 kills and 1,500 digs in a career, ranking second in school annals in digs and compiling the seventh highest total in MAC history.
During the 2005 season, Obras started 30 of BSU's 31 matches. She averaged 3.67 digs per game and 3.21 kills per game from the outside attacker position. She also has been named the MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week and is a two-time All-MAC selection.
Bacan, a sports administration major with a 3.82 grade-point average, is a first-time ESPN The Magazine honoree. Originally given a medical red-shirt for the 2002 season, Bacan elected to forego her red-shirt year of eligibility and will graduate in May.
She played 49 of BSU's 55 matches. As a defensive specialist Bacan has tallied 426 career digs, including a career-best 17 digs in four games during the season.
Bacan collected 233 digs for a career-best 2.43 digs-per-game average. She paces the team with a 0.28 aces-per-game average, having dealt out 27 aces.
Parrell, an exercise science major with a 3.77 grade-point average, also is a first-time ESPN The Magazine honoree. In her second year with the program, she is climbing BSU career charts, ranking eight in school annals with 1,423 assists, and is the seventh Cardinal to post more than 1,000 assists in a season.
Parrell has started all 31 matches and was named the MAC West Division Player of
the Week in August 2005.
Amy Holst named to ESPN magazine
All-District team Junior midfielder Amy Holst (Shawnee Mission, KS/Shawnee Mission East H.S.) has been selected to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V Women's Soccer Team.
Holst, the only MAC player selected to the District V squad, will appear on the national ballot of the Academic All-American Women's Soccer Team.
She has the team's second-highest gradepoint average of 3.907 as a microbiology major. She started in 18 games during the 2005 season and accumulated four goals,
three assists, 11 points, and 27 shots.

Men's Basketball: Stephen Jones (Bathalto, IL/Civic Memorial H.S.) has signed
a national letter of intent to attend Ball State and compete for the men's basketball program. Jones is a three-year varsity starter and entered his senior season ranked sixth in school history with 1,182 career points.
