Spring Recruitment:

A BIG thanks to everyone who sat in on interviews this week!  We only had one interview without a current St.A.R.T. representative.  We had a total of 13 applications (one dropped out, one was a no show)…which left us with 11 interviews. We were down on the number of applicants this semester, but had very quality people come through.

After the group discussed each candidate and cast their ballots, the group decided to welcome six new members to St.A.R.T. We will have a pretty large group for the remainder of the semester, but with 12 seniors leaving after this summer, we should even out again in the fall.  The new members and St.A.R.T. mentors are:

  • Mariela Benitez – Freshman, Psychology Major – Miami Gardens, FL (Melissa Martin)
  • Emily Cliver – Junior, Psychology Major – Portage, IN (Sarah Isaac)
  • Whitney Gutgsell – Sophomore, Public Relations Major – Jasper, IN (Lindsey Thompson)
  • Brooke Johnson – Junior, Marketing Major – Kokomo, IN (Katelyn Balach)
  • Brad Luetje – Junior, Operation Management Major – Lake Forest, IL (Brian Geiselhart)
  • Mary-Phillips Omotosho – Junior, Information Systems Major – Athens, OH (Paul Sommer)

Mentors should contact their respective new member to congratulate them on being selected and answer any questions they may have.

Senior Congrats Party 2007!!

The group broke into their sub-committees for about 5-10 minutes to discuss progress and goals for the next meeting. Then, each team make their report:

PUBLICITY: Brian found a great deal on the neoprene koozies for hand-outs (300 for about $195). They are red with white printing and can have two logos printed on them. We will check into getting a corporate sponsor for these.  Arica created some t-shirt designs during her office hour. The group decided we would not include the year in the designs, so they could be more general and used longer. We still plan to get the silicone wristbands…Brian found a good deal…they will be red with white imprint and say "BSU Alumni" on one side and have the BSUAA web address on the other side. If we do not hand them all out, we can use them at other BSUAA events. He priced them at 1,000 wristbands for about $300.

FOOD & DRINKS: This will be similar to last year. The committee still plans to use Papa Johns, Dill Street, Carter's, etc.  They decided to get cupcakes instead of sheet cake this year – to cut-down on mess and the need to have servers. Brian volunteered to scoop ice cream again this year if we decided to go that route again.

DECORATIONS/ENTERTAINMENT: During their office hours next Friday, Lindsey and Sarah plan to search Oriental Trading Company to decide what we need to replace/purchase as far as decorations. They also plan to contact Mr. SuperRent for helium information and TIS for window decorating and to see if we can hand out flyers with caps and gowns again this year.

SPONSORS: Meryn plans to work on a master list for the group and pass out copies of assignments and sponsor sheets at our next meeting. Her committee will also work on securing the tent, UPD for security, and the shuttle bus extension. They plan to create posters with arrows to guide all attendees to enter the party through the main entrance so they can sign in.

Please sign up for future office hours with your other sub-committee members if possible – it helps to work together to get a lot of this accomplished!

Happy February birthdays to:  Meg (2/11), Lindsay (2/25), and Drake (2/28)!!!

Office hours are not required next week, since we will be having another meeting.

We received our first two survival kit orders this week!

Start thinking of ideas for a new member get-together. Paul mentioned that it would probably be best to just have a meeting over breakfast somewhere instead of planning an event at night, since we can never find a good time for everyone to meet up. Genevieve suggested trying Eva's instead of going back to Bob Evans.

Lindsey reported that the PRSSA Chili Challenge is coming up at the end of May, if St.A.R.T. is interested in entering a team

Christina reminded the group to vote in the SGA elections next week!

Upcoming Meetings:

Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at 7:15 a.m. in the Alumni Center Boardroom – new members will be in attendance.
