
Dennis Trammell, a 2004 business management graduate, earned Academic All-America honors.
Trammell also was named to the Academic All-District V Team, becoming the third men's basketball player in school history to earn Academic All-America honors.
In 23 games played last season, Trammell was second on the team in scoring with 15.9 points per game. He was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week.
Trammell ranks ninth on BSU's single-season chart for three-point field goals in a season, finishing his career with 59.
Football program adds three to staff
Stan Parrish, Eddie Faulkner, MS04, and Matt Schilling have been added to the football staff at Ball State. Parrish will join the Cardinals as the quarterbacks coach, while Faulkner will coach the running backs and Schilling will be the team's video coordinator.
Parrish spent the 2002-03 seasons as the quarterbacks coach of the National Football League's Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In 2002, Parrish tutored starting quarterback Brad Johnson, who led the Buccaneers to a 12-4 regular season record and the first Super Bowl Championship in franchise history.
Prior to his stint with Tampa Bay, Parrish spent 1978 through 2001 as a collegiate football coach, including a total of ten years as a head coach at Wabash, Marshall, and Kansas State. He compiled a 57-41-3 overall head coaching record in his ten seasons.
From 1996 to 2001, Parrish was an assistant coach at the University of Michigan. He helped the Wolverines to a 1997 berth in the Rose Bowl and the school's 11th National Championship. Parrish also was instrumental in the development of former Michigan quarterbacks Brian Griese and Tom Brady.
In addition, Parrish spent time as an assistant coach at Rutgers (1995) and Purdue (1983) after starting his coaching career at Windham High School in Windham, OH. Parrish is a 1969 graduate of Heidelberg College in Tiffin, OH.
Faulkner has spent the last two years as a graduate assistant coach at Ball State. Prior to his position at BSU, Faulkner was an assistant coach at Anderson University for the 2002 season.
A four-year letter-winner at tailback for the University of Wisconsin, Faulkner helped the Badgers to two Big Ten Championships and five bowl games in his career.
After earning a bachelor's degree from UW, Faulkner was a member of the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League and attended a preseason camp for the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers.
Faulkner was an all-state running back for Muncie Central High School.
Schilling is a 2004 graduate of Southern Illinois University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in radio and television. He spent four years as the video coordinator for football and was the videographer for the men's and women's basketball teams.
Field hockey squad earns academic award
The National Field Hockey Coaches Association has announced that the Ball State field hockey team has been named a 2004 Division I Academic Team award winner. BSU is one of 57 teams with a national squad.
Players include: Tracy Bannister (Woodbridge, VA/Woodbridge H.S.); Lauren Cruz (Centreville, VA/Centreville H.S.); Holly Frantz (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra Area H.S.); Nicole Humphreys (Sinking Spring, PA/ Wilson H.S.); Jamie Kahn (San Diego, CA/Serra H.S.); and Katie Kloeckener Strodel (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North H.S.).
Bannister, a junior goalkeeper, recorded all four wins in net for BSU, including a shutout game, resulting in a Mid-American Conference Player of the Week honor.
Cruz, a freshman, competed in all 18 games with 16 starts at forward. She completed her first semester with a 3.51 GPA in nursing.
Senior midfielder Frantz totaled ten points with four goals and two assists in her 18 starts. She compiled a 3.39 GPA as a special education major.
Humphreys, a freshman defender, started all 17 of her games played. She notched a 3.46 GPA during her first semester as an elementary education major.
Freshman forward Kahn played in 12 games. She has a 3.47 GPA as a business major.
In her second year, midfielder Lacey Morgan made it into consecutive games. A political science and communication studies major, Morgan holds a 3.63 GPA.
Senior midfielder Strodel notched three goals and two assists during her 18 starts. An All-MAC First Team member, she earned Academic All-MAC accolades and was an All-West Region Second Team selection. In addition, she earned a spot in the NFHCA Senior All-Star game. Strodel has a 3.98 GPA as a physical education major.
Two receive track/field honors
Rose Lehe (Wolcott/Tri-County H.S.) and Jill Scully (Valparaiso/Valparaiso H.S.) have been named to the Indoor Track and Field Academic All-Mid-American Conference team. This marks the first-time Lehe has received the award, while Scully is honored for the second-straight year.
Lehe, a sophomore dietetics major with a 3.86 GPA, participated in every competition of the track team for the 2004 season. At the MAC Championships, she finished the 3,000 in fourth place, recording a personal-best time of 9:54.03. Overall, she recorded six individual top-ten finishes, and was a member of the distance medley relay team, placing sixth at the MAC Championships.
Scully, a junior mathematics major with a 3.46 GPA, paced the Cardinals by winning two events in the MAC Championships.
She won the 3,000-meter race with a time of 9:38.04, setting a MAC record, which earned her the MAC's Most Outstanding Performer and First-Team All-MAC honors.
