New Alumni Council Members Gear Up For 2005

Alumni Council
The Alumni Council meets three times annually to conduct the business of the Alumni Association.

It is the mission of the Ball State University Alumni Association to foster and fully realize the ideals and mission of the university. The Alumni Association encourages loyalty, participation, and support of the university by informing alumni of the achievements and needs of their Alma Mater.

The BSUAA also unites all alumni in closer bonds of education, fellowship, tradition, and mutual assistance by serving as an advocate for alumni, enriching their lives, and involving them with Ball State University.

The Alumni Council serves as the governing body for the Alumni Association. To date, there have been 65 presidents and five executive directors serving the Association. The ushering in of a new year means that several changes are taking place in the membership of the Council.

R. Wayne Estopinal, '79, who served as president in 2004, will not only serve as past-president, but also will be the Alumni Council's representative to the Ball State University Foundation Board of Directors. Estopinal is president, owner, and architect at The Estopinal Group, Inc. in Jeffersonville.

Serving as president of the Alumni Council will be Julie C. Bradshaw, '80. Bradshaw first joined the Council in 1997, representing the Indianapolis-area Alumni Club. She is a physical education teacher at Plainfield High School.

Mark A. Ervin, '81MA85, who also has been appointed as an at-large representative to the Ball State University Foundation Board of Directors, will be president-elect. Ervin is an attorney and managing partner for Beasley & Gilkison LLP in Muncie.

Douglas W. Reddington, '78, will serve on the Council's executive committee as vice president, having represented the College of Architecture and Planning since 2002. Reddington is principle and architect for BSA Life Structures in Indianapolis.

The Alumni Council also will welcome several new members representing constituent and professional societies.

Michael L. Chisley, '73, will represent the Black Alumni Society. While promoting diversity among the Council membership, he also will work to promote activities and events planned by the society. A Black Alumni Society member since 1993, Chisley is a principal with the Indianapolis Public Schools.

James C. "Jamie" Lake, '95, will represent the College of Architecture and Planning. Lake is an architect for Kovert Hawkins Architects in Jeffersonville. He has been a member of the College of Architecture and Planning Alumni Society since 2000 and currently serves as the group's president.

Representing the Journalism Alumni Association will be Sarah A. Maisto, '96, is marketing communications manager for Goodwill Industries in Indianapolis. Maisto has been a member of the Journalism Alumni board since 2001 and is immediate past president of the group.

Matching the university's quest for diversity, the BSUAA has added three new at-large representatives to the Alumni Council to maintain an accurate representation of the university's alumni family.

Annette A. Munoz, '02, is a music education teacher at Turkey Run High School in Marshall. She will provide the Council with the unique perspective of a young alumnus. Munoz says that she is extremely honored and excited to be part of the Council and hopes "to bring more energy and many ideas that will be useful to the group."

Edward M. Sitar, III, '94, is an economic development manager for ComEd in Chicago, IL. Sitar has represented Ball State alumni at regional outings and admissions receptions in Chicago and the surrounding areas.

Lori K. Wean, '85, is a physician and partner at Hancock Pediatrics in Greenfield. Wean had previously been involved with the Alumni Council from 1994 to 2003, and served as its president in 2002.

"Our increasing alumni body is diverse geographically, culturally, by age and academic discipline," says BSUAA Executive Director Edwin D. Shipley, '68MA71. "Council representation needs to reflect our growth. The addition of three seats on the Council helps us to do that."

Membership on the Council includes representatives from each alumni club and professional society organized as part of the Alumni Association, in addition to at-large members.
