TC Meeting Minutes, July 12, 2006
Members Present:   Terri Austin, Vince Bertram, Steve Brace, Jeannine Browning, Michelle Harrell, Ernie Krug, Mary Link, Doug Siebert, Maria Esterline, Roy Weaver, Kate Webber, Eugene White and Steve Yager. After the committee meetings, Eugene White called the meeting to order at 10:30 a.m.  After review of the September 24, 2005 minutes, Mary Link made a motion to accept, seconded by Terri Austin.  The minutes were approved by voice vote.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Budget Committee Report
Eugene White distributed the proposed budget for 2006-07.  The total budget proposed was $13,000. A motion was made by Terri Austin to approve the budget, Steve Brace seconded the motion, and the budget was approved by voice vote.

Innovative Education Grant
Out of four grant applications submitted this year, Mary Ann Thiery, Kathleen Lind, Cathy D. Hahn, Keri Dickerson, Pamela Kaiser and Rozann Schenkel with Saint Mary School, Muncie, Indiana and Cathy Purtlebaugh with Washington –Carver/Muncie Community Schools, Muncie, Indiana were selected to receive $500 each for the Innovative Education Grant. 

A motion to approve the selection for the Innovative Education Grant was made by Vince Bertrum, seconded by Doug Siebert, and approved by voice vote.

Outstanding Alumni Committee Report
Seven nominations were submitted this year.  The winner of the Outstanding Alumni Award for 2006-07 is Lance Brand.  Mr. Lance Brand, '95MA99 is a science educator at Delta High School, Muncie, Indiana.

A motion was made by Judy Briganti to accept the nomination, seconded by Vince Bertrum, and approved by voice vote.

Scholarship Committee
Out of 25 submissions, 14 scholarships were awarded this year.  Twelve student scholarships were awarded in the amount of $1,000 each and two in the amount of $500 each.  The 14 students, their hometowns, and the scholarship(s) were:

A motion was made by Jeannine Browning to accept the selections of the scholarship committee, seconded by Steve Brace, and approved by voice vote.

Symphony on the Prairie Outing Update
Symphony on the Prairie will be August 26, 2006.  Eugene White volunteered to pay for board members to attend the event.  Ernie Krug will give Julie Bradshaw a list of board members.

Bradshaw from the Indianapolis Area Alumni Chapter has asked for a few of the Teachers College Alumni Board help with greeting alumni the night of the outing.

Children's Museum of Indianapolis Outing
Dean Weaver said the Children's Museum of Indianapolis outing in October of 2005 was a great success.  The next outing is scheduled for March 3, 2007.

Dean's Report
Ernie Krug reported on Sharon Gunyon's request to be replaced on the board.  Weaver recommended Joe Olah and Alena Bogucki as possible new board members.  A motion was made by Terri Austin to accept Weaver's recommendation, seconded by Mary Link, and approved by voice vote.

Weaver reported that university enrollment is up and that there are 300 more incoming freshmen.  Burris has 50 more students this coming fall. The new doctoral program in Educational Studies is now operational.

Next Board Meeting
The next board meeting is Saturday, September 30, 2005 at 10 a.m. at the Arts and Journalism Building.

Items on the agenda for the next meeting include:

  • Discuss options to increase attendance at the Children's Museum outing and options to off set fees.
  • Review questions for the Innovative Grant Application:
    a.  Mandatory administrator signature
    b.  Change the due date for applications to April 15
    c.  Specific Standards must be listed on application
    d.  Should private and home schools be allowed for consideration
