Symphony on the Prairie:
Ernie Krug reported that 34 out of 100 alumni who attended the Symphony on the Prairie outing were Teachers College alumni.  The overall reaction to the outing was positive.  It was an opportunity to have direct contact with many alumni.  Metcalf mentioned that it presented a good opportunity to converse about education with Teachers College alumni, to answer questions and to interact.

Ernie Krug suggested sending a personalized e-mail from the Dean as a reminder before the outing next year.  He also suggested listing the Teachers College alumni attending the outing on the Web to help attract more alumni to the event.

The board agreed to work with Julie Bradshaw to coordinate Symphony on the Prairie activities, or a similar outing, next year.  Another possible outing would be to piggyback with the Alumni Association with the Fort Wayne Wizards baseball game.

Churchill Downs:
May 15, 2004 was chosen for the Churchill Downs outing.  A flyer will be sent out to alumni giving details for the outing.  The information included in the flyer for this outing will announce the dean and other Teachers College Alumni board members who will be in attendance.  Travel arrangements will be finalized in the spring.

Larry Smith gave a brief presentation on the Transition to Teaching program for elementary education.  It is a 24-semester hour program for people seeking an Indiana teaching license, but who have earned a baccalaureate degree in another field of study.  The program has been developed in partnership with Towne Meadow School and Carmel Clay Schools.  Candidates are required to be in the school full-time for most of the two-semester plan.  Students participating in the program follow the teacher's daily schedule which includes after-school and weekend events.  Ten students are selected each year for the program.
