In later years, demonstrations proved that human muscles simply did not have the strength to create enough power for creating enough lift to compensate for a human's weight, much less his weight plus that of an aircraft. In addition, the study of birds showed that their hollow bones help to decrease their body weight for flight. Later other designs have been flown using human power, for example the Gossamer Condor flew over the English Channel using bicycle power.
