Who was Sir Isaac Newton? Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727) Sir Isaac Newton was born on Christmas Day in 1642 – the same year Galileo Galilei died. One day in a garden, Newton saw an apple fall from a tree and wondered why apples (and other things) always fell straight down to the ground, toward the center of the Earth. From this, Newton formulated the law of gravitation and the three laws of motion that describe how forces act on matter. .
