You can’t be afraid to get a little messy in this summer adventure! Join us on an archaeological dig, where campers will first learn archaeological methods in the lab in preparation of a real-life archaeological dig. Head out to an actual dig site and help Ball State University students and faculty unearth artifacts. Prepare to rediscover the past in this brand new Summer Adventure Camp.

Are you the next mobile app millionaire? Create your own apps for mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, Android, etc.)! Use the latest SDK to create games, movies, apps, videos, and more. Write, produce, and shoot short films or videos for distribution on multiple platforms. Use the latest software to create content for your apps. You don’t need to own a mobile device to participate in this camp, but if you have one, bring it.

Be bold, be brave, and be a visionary! Join us in Adventures in Architecture as campers interact and learn through hands-on approaches. Campers will be encouraged to engage in new ides and concepts while utilizing equipment and material to create model buildings. Faculty from Ball State University’s College of Architecture and Planning will put campers to the test as they present open-ended problems, with the budding architects responsible for finding the answer. Test solutions, take them back to the drawing board, and try again. Explore a range of design thinking that encompasses the hand-held object, to the small-scale building, to city-wide aspirations.

Explore the link between physics and astronomy. Study mysterious bouncing objects, identify mystery gasses, and build models of an atom and the solar system. Investigate the working of a bridge and use your knowledge to build and test your own. Create a cargo ship that will safely transport an egg and then test it to see if your egg makes it home safely.

In the virtual reality world, anything can come to life. As technology continues to develop, 3D programming becomes more and more popular in games and movies. In this summer camp you can become the 3D programmer, and learn the tricks of the trade that make your favorite 3D movies and games so realistic! Start with programming objects using an x-, y-, and z-axis, and move into more advanced and enhanced graphical worlds as you work with new programming 3D packages.

Are you performing at your highest level? Exercise is a key component in the human’s ability to perform at an optimum level. Campers will discover how skeletal muscles and cardiorespiratory systems function during exercise. Work with Ball State University faculty and students from the Human Performance Lab to understand just how important it is to tone it up and sweat it out! You’ll start to see exercising in a whole new light.

A limited quantity of scholarships may be available to students with a need for financial assistance. To apply for these scholarships, please submit a proof of Free and Reduced Lunch Standing and a letter explaining your need for financial assistance via email to slniekamp@bsu.edu or by mail to Sheri Niekamp, Academy House, Ball State University, Muncie IN 47306.

By sponsoring a camper, you are providing the opportunity to join a Youth Enrichment Program to a student who might otherwise be unable to attend.
Note: Sponsorship contributions are not tax-deductible.
Policies & Forms
PAYMENT:
If paying by check, payment is due immediately to secure your spot. Payment will not be accepted at check-in time.
Payments not received three weeks prior to the date of the program may result in the participant’s spot being forfeited to a student on an existing waiting list.
CANCELLATIONS:
Cancellations can no longer be refunded three weeks prior to the program date. Cancellations made before this time frame are subject to a cancellation fee of 15%. Credit card refunds may be subject to an additional 5% cancellation fee.
MEDICATIONS:
All medications that a camper must bring with them must be clearly labeled with instructions. Medications should be brought to the attention of the camp facilitator.
BEHAVIORAL ISSUES:
We work with each student to the best of our abilities, but want to provide an educational and fun opportunity for students in attendance. If one student begins to take away from the overall experience, their parents or guardians will be contacted regarding the situation. Any campers whose behavior becomes a distraction or liability may be asked to leave the camp.

There are two forms that must be completed and returned to us as soon as possible but no later than June 1, 2013. If you arrive at camp and we do not have one or more of these forms you will not be permitted to stay. The necessary forms are the Health/Medical Form and the Liability Form.About the Indiana Academy
The Indiana Academy is a public two-year high school preparing Indiana’s gifted and talented students for the future. Through its outreach services, the Academy offers programs that encourage gifted young people to reach their full intellectual and personal potential. Through a challenging curriculum and outstanding teaching, the Academy’s Saturday Youth Programs shape motivated students into leaders and thinkers.
