IVLC Suggested Standards
Course Design
- Content meets or exceeds Indiana State educational standards.
- Description and objectives are clearly defined within each course and meet or exceed the Indiana curriculum standards.
- Content is embedded in a comprehensive and rigorous course of study.
- Courses are designed so that students have access to a variety of learning materials.
- The course design allows the opportunity for students to exercise some control over their own learning process and the opportunity for individualized instruction is available.
Assessment
- Assessment methods appropriate to the course are utilized throughout the term of the course.
- The course instructor provides frequent and timely feedback to each student in order for that student to accurately gage and monitor their own progress.
Interaction
- An Indiana State licensed or highly qualified instructor facilitates and directs the online classroom environment.
- Communicative opportunities are developed through continued frequent interaction between the student and the instructor.
- In synchronous virtual courses, systems are in place to provide monitored student to student interaction within the setting of the classroom environment.
Professional Responsibilities
- Each instructor of record maintains clear and complete records of the student's academic progress.
- The instructor is consistently facilitating and interacting with students in the course. In asynchronous courses, there are multiple opportunities for students to interact with the course instructor and the instructor is an active participant in the majority of the course activities.
- The instructor regularly updates students on progress in the course.
Professional Qualifications
- Courses earning high school credit will be taught by Indiana state-certified instructors or highly qualified instructors with appropriate academic background.
- Courses earning dual credit will be taught by instructors approved by the college or university granting the post-secondary credit.
- Advanced Placement courses are taught by instructors certified by the College Board per the course guidelines.
