Vision and Mission
The consortium members recognize the rapid growth of virtual education in Indiana. Although we support this growth in principle, we are increasingly concerned about the lack of quality control. The Indiana Department of Education recently raised graduation standards in order to better prepare students for higher education and the world of work. In support of that initiative, the consortium members believe that the courses offered through virtual education providers in the state of Indiana should follow rigorous standards and that the teachers should be well qualified to teach their subjects.
MISSION
The mission of the Indiana Virtual Learning Consortium (IVLC) is to promote the growth of high-quality virtual educational opportunities for Indiana students and schools.
VISION
The Indiana Virtual Learning Consortium is committed to working collaboratively to improve the quality of virtual education in the state of Indiana.
The Indiana Virtual Learning Consortium believes:
- The state of Indiana needs to have state standards for virtual education based upon recognized best practices, national standards, and Indiana state curriculum standards.
- All Indiana high school students shall be taught by Indiana state-certified teachers or otherwise highly qualified professionals who possess the appropriate academic background.
- All virtual high school courses offered for credit in Indiana shall follow the Indiana state curriculum standards.
- All high school students in Indiana should be provided an opportunity to engage in virtual learning experiences prior to graduation.
- All high school students in Indiana should be provided an opportunity to engage in challenging early college courses (AP, dual credit) offered through a virtual format.
- The Indiana Virtual Learning Consortium should collaborate with the Indiana Department of Education and other educational institutions and agencies to develop and promote standards for high quality virtual education.
- The Indiana Virtual Learning consortium should collaborate with school districts, schools, and individual students in order provide high quality virtual education to the students of Indiana.
- Virtual education should be affordable to all high school students in Indiana.
Each member organization of the Indiana Virtual Learning Consortium is dedicated to adhering to the state virtual learning standards and providing high-quality virtual educational experiences to high school students throughout Indiana.
